Lilongwe, Malawi – United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has publicly distanced himself and the party from a recent press briefing in Lilongwe, where some individuals claiming to represent the UDF announced acceptance of defeat in the presidential elections.
Muluzi clarified that the briefing was not sanctioned by the UDF, emphasizing that he had no knowledge of any official statement being made in the party’s name.
“The party has observed irregularities in the electoral process, which must be addressed before any conclusions can be drawn,” Muluzi stated. “I have not sanctioned any press briefing, and I am not aware of any press briefing by the party.”
When asked about the conduct of the individuals involved, Muluzi offered no comment, signaling a firm stance against unsanctioned statements.
As of now, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has yet to release the full official results of the presidential polls, leaving political observers and citizens closely monitoring developments.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions and scrutiny surrounding Malawi’s electoral process, as parties and citizens alike await transparency and verified election outcomes.
