Freedom fighter and activist Kamlepo Kalua, has thanked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for conceding a defeat even though not made publicly by moving away from Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe to his permanent residence in Salima.
Kalua said ever since the election results have been trickling that Chakwera was a heading for a defeat, there have been silence from the State House except some activities in Lilongwe where his running mate Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba and Dr. Jessie Kabwila have been disputing the results that the DPP has rigged the elections.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters were seen holding demonstrations in Lilongwe to force Mec Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja to hold the results until all the electoral irregularities it received have been addressed but Mtalimanja stood firm, she defied this call.
Speaking through an audio clip, Kalua has appealed to President Chakwera to avail himself when President-Elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will be inaugurated as President of the country saying this alone, will prove him to be a statesman and a patriot.
Kalua said Malawi is a country for all, elections should not divide the people saying on the 16th September, 2025 Malawians casted their vote to choose a leader to govern them in the next 5 years and they spoke with their loudest voice, advising all the candidates to accept the will of the voters.
“We have seen Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, Akwame Bandawe, Phunziro Mvula, Dr. Joyce Banda accepting defeats honorably and congratulating the winner, all this is for peace to prevail in Malawi,” he said.
He has wished President Chakwera all the best assuring him that there is life after presidency and he is not the first one to be defeated, Dr. Kamuzu Banda, Dr. Bakili Muluzi and Dr. Joyce Banda followed the same path saying their respect and honor is still there.
To Professor Mutharika, Kalua has welcomed him into presidency advising him to be what he is reminding him that during his reign, he had a vision of transforming Malawi to Singapore saying that chance has come, 5 years is enough to see the fruits of Singapore
Kalua has appealed to Professor Mutharika to govern the country with love saying he was voted by Malawians from all the regions including the central region observing that the landslide victory has come about because all Malawians had trust in him that proven leadership is coming with him.
He has asked Professor Mutharika to forgive all of his critics and put God in the forefront promising the people what he will do and not promising the people what he cannot do saying in this way, God will love him and his presidency will be enjoyed by all Malawian
