The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially declared Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as the winner of the September 16, 2025 presidential election.

According to MEC Chairperson, Mutharika secured a decisive victory, earning the trust of millions of Malawians who turned out to vote. With this declaration, Mutharika is set to take over leadership from President Lazarus Chakwera, who has since conceded defeat and congratulated his successor.
