A large crowd gathered in Nathenje yesterday to celebrate the return of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to power.
As the old saying goes, “old soldiers never die,” and this seemed true in Nathenje, where residents joyfully welcomed Mutharika’s victory in the general elections announced today by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson.
People of Nathenje expressed their jubilation through dancing, ululating, and singing songs of praise for the DPP leader.
The celebrations were seen as a sign of relief for many in the community, who felt burdened during the five years of the MCP government.
One community member told this reporter, “Now we are happy because the DPP is back in power. Timagona ndi njala ife—imagine, even hospitals had no drugs.”
He went on to urge DPP officials to avoid repeating the mistakes of the previous government and to prioritize the needs of ordinary Malawians.
With the election results now officially announced, the focus shifts to how the new DPP administration, under Malawi’s 7th President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, will address the country’s pressing challenges.
Malawians are watching closely, hopeful that the new government will resolve issues that have long affected their daily lives.
The 2025 elections have clearly signaled a desire for change, and residents of Nathenje are eager to see tangible improvements under Mutharika’s leadership.
