Blantyre, Malawi – Former presidents Bakili Muluzi and Joyce Banda have confirmed their attendance at the highly anticipated swearing-in ceremony of Professor Peter Mutharika as Malawi’s new Head of State. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday in Blantyre.
Speaking ahead of the event, the two former leaders emphasized the importance of unity and democracy in the country.

“I believe in democracy, and by attending this ceremony, I am also appealing to all the leaders who did not win in the election to be present as a sign of unity,” Muluzi stated.
Joyce Banda also echoed similar sentiments, stressing that peaceful transitions and unity are crucial for Malawi’s political and socio-economic stability.

Meanwhile, Anthony Kasunda, spokesperson for former president Lazarus Chakwera, has said that a statement will be released in due course on whether Chakwera will attend the inaugurationDPP apologizes to Bakili Muluzi for Suleiman’s remarks.
The swearing-in of President-Elect Peter Mutharika is expected to draw leaders from across the political divide, civil society, and international partners. Analysts say the presence of former leaders at the event sends a powerful message of peace, democracy, and reconciliation in Malawi’s political landscape.
