By The Radar Reporter Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation has finally honoured its $500 000 pledge towards the construction of 75 houses for Tropical Cyclone Freddy survivors in Zomba and Phalombe districts. Former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi broke the news to journalists at his BCA residence in Blantyre on Tuesday; saying the gesture would have a great impact on the survivors currently in dire need of shelter and food. Meanwhile, Malawi Red Cross Society President Innocent Majiya has confirmed receiving the funds. Phalombe and Zomba will have 45 and 30 houses respectively. The National Planning Commission is set to award Former President Bakili Muluzi for among other things, leading the setting-up of governance institutions like the Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB), the office of the Ombudsman and Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), among others. Director General of the Commission Thomas Munthali says the Inter-generational Development Champion award is also in recognition of the former president’s initiation of Vision 2020, on which the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) agenda is built. Muluzi is also credited for introducing inclusive socio-economic empowerment initiatives such as free primary school education. The commission says the award will be handed to Muluzi soon.
