Blantyre, Malawi — President-elect Peter Mutharika will officially be sworn in as Malawi’s seventh Head of State this Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. The ceremony will mark the beginning of his second tenure in the country’s highest office following his victory in the just-ended presidential election.
According to the inauguration committee, preparations are at an advanced stage to ensure a smooth and historic event. Thousands of Malawians, dignitaries, and invited guests are expected to witness the ceremony, which will include the official oath of office and the symbolic handover of state instruments.
Former Chief Justice Jane Ansah is also expected to take her oath as Vice President during the same ceremony.
Mutharika, who campaigned on promises of restoring economic stability, fighting corruption, and ensuring food security, will be tasked with steering Malawi through pressing challenges including rising living costs and calls for public sector reforms.
Security agencies have heightened patrols in Blantyre ahead of the inauguration, while the Ministry of Information has urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to celebrate the country’s democratic milestone.
Mutharika’s swearing-in will signal the official transition of power and usher in a new administration that many Malawians hope will deliver on its electoral pledges
