A Concerned citizen of Malawi residing in Area 51- Lilongwe Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has hailed the decision made by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of relocating selected government institutions back to where they were before, as promoting administrative balance.

In a statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) says the Government of Malawi is committed to ensuring effective governance, equitable regional development, and enhanced service delivery across the country.

The statement says there’s need to strategically realign and relocate certain government institutions to promote administrative balance and efficiency that suitable infrastructure and facilities exist in various regions to host such institutions without compromising operational effectiveness.

“By the powers vested in me as President of the Republic of Malawi, I hereby order MACRA to be relocated from Lilongwe to Blantyre, Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) from Lilongwe to Blantyre, Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) from Lilongwe to Blantyre and Malawi Prison Service (MPS) from Lilongwe to Zomba,” reads Mutharika’s signature on the wall.

In the statement, President Professor Mutharika has directed all affected institutions to develop and submit relocation implementation plans to the OPC within 30 days from the order made on 10th October, 2025.

Mrs. Kaliza Banda said the way the MCP led government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has spent K3 trillion in just 4 months to the 16th September, 2025 general elections, it is clear that they came into government not for servant leadership but to steal and become rich.

She has suspected some other people in the MCP gave President Chakwera wrong orders of relocating some government institutions from where they were to Lilongwe with a hidden agenda of stealing and not for the purpose of effective governance.

The citizen said these government institutions had their own buildings where they were before, but the relocation exercise to Lilongwe made these institutions to occupy rented buildings and government was paying to that making some individuals in the MCP led government moving with fat pockets.

She said it is not surprising to note that some other individuals in the MCP led government including President Chakwera himself, family, friends, and relatives, have become billionaires over a night and they cannot explain their source of wealth.

“Individuals of the MCP have accumulated unexplained wealth while the citizens are sleeping with empty stomachs and have no hope for a better tomorrow,” said Kaliza Banda.

She has appealed to President Professor Mutharika to direct the Malawi Parliament to move a bill that will only allow K1000 as the highest banknote in the country to be circulating so that the K2000s and K5000s banknotes MCP individuals have stolen from government coffers be buried where they have hidden.

Kaliza Banda said it is sad that K3 trillion in the last two years, was a national budget to drive the country in all sectors, procuring medicines in hospitals and wage bills for civil servants, among others, in one financial year, but all this K3 trillion have entered into crooked pockets in just 4 months in a country where the MCP took democracy to the dogs.
