Speaking during his first Management Meeting at the National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe, the IGP urged all police officers to embrace teamwork, discipline, and performance as the foundation of effective policing.

The high-level meeting brought together Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners from all six policing regions, alongside Heads of Branches from the National Police Headquarters. The event was held under the theme, “Dancing to a Leadership Challenge.”

Focus Shifts from Elections to Service Delivery

IGP Luhanga emphasized that the 2025 General Elections are now behind, and the Malawi Police must refocus on its core mandate of delivering quality public service.

Peter Mutharika: The Patriot President Malawi Still Misses

“As Inspector General, I will serve every officer and every Malawian equally. I am IGP for everybody,” said Mr. Luhanga.

He urged officers to recommit to professionalism and integrity, ensuring that every Malawian experiences a police service that is efficient, accountable, and trustworthy.

Operational Reforms and Roadblock Reduction

In his address, the IGP announced plans to streamline roadblocks nationwide to improve efficiency, reduce public inconvenience, and minimize corruption allegations.

He said these reforms are part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and rebuild public confidence in the Malawi Police Service.

Discipline, Uniform, and Professionalism

Mr. Luhanga reminded all officers that discipline and adherence to the police uniform policy are non-negotiable.

“Our uniform is our identity,” he said. “Wearing it properly reflects our image, unity, and commitment to service.”

He also emphasized that every officer must uphold the highest standards of behavior, both on and off duty, to maintain the dignity of the Police Service.

Performance-Based Recognition

The IGP revealed that MPS will soon adopt a results-based performance system, where rewards and recognition will depend on measurable achievements.

“Performance, discipline, and integrity will be the new yardsticks,” Luhanga declared.

He further directed Commissioners to cascade the message to all police formations across Malawi and motivate their teams toward a culture of excellence.

Restoring Public Trust

Concluding his remarks, IGP Luhanga called on all officers to work together to restore public confidence in the Police.

“Together, we can build a Police Service that every Malawian can trust and be proud of,” he said.
