Lilongwe, Malawi — Veteran politician and UTM Party founding member Newton Kambala has officially resigned from his position as advisor to the party’s president, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, ahead of the upcoming September 16 general elections.

Confirming the development in an interview, Kambala said his decision follows the ineffectiveness of the special advisory committee that Dr. Kabambe established to provide strategic guidance as the party prepares for the polls.
“The committee has not lived up to expectations, and as we move toward the elections, I feel it is best to step aside,” Kambala explained.
Despite stepping down from his advisory role, Kambala emphasized that he remains a committed member of the UTM Party, which he helped found.

His resignation comes at a crucial time as UTM intensifies its campaign efforts under Dr. Kabambe’s leadership. The development has sparked discussions within political circles about possible internal challenges facing the party’s election strategy.
UTM, which was founded in 2018, is positioning itself as a key contender in Malawi’s upcoming elections, with Kabambe promising economic transformation and governance reforms.
Kambala, known for his experience in politics and public service, previously served as Minister of Energy and has been a visible figure in the UTM’s leadership since its inception.
