In celebration of Mother’s Day, Ashraful Aid Malawi has donated baby and hygiene items valued at over K3 million to 50 mothers at the Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Ward of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.
The donation, made over the weekend, reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to maternal health, community care, and humanitarian support for vulnerable groups in Malawi.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ashraful Aid Malawi Executive Director, Abdullah Panjwani, said the initiative was aimed at promoting the well-being of mothers and newborn babies during and after delivery.
“Through the generosity of our donors and partners, we wanted to bring smiles, comfort, and dignity to mothers and their babies, reaffirming our commitment to compassion and community care,” said Panjwani.
Among the donated items were 50 baby bath basins, 30 (10-litre) buckets, 20 (20-litre) buckets, 30 (50-litre) buckets, 10 digital thermometers, 50 baby gift packs, 50 loaves of bread, and 50 yoghurt cups — all aimed at improving hygiene and comfort for mothers and their infants.
Receiving the donation, Principal Nursing Officer for Chatinkha Maternity Ward, Angella Jambo, expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying it would help improve maternal and neonatal care at the hospital.
“Items like thermometers are beneficial in our work. They will help us monitor mothers and babies every step of the way to ensure they are in good health,” said Jambo.
Ashraful Aid Malawi has been active in various charitable and development initiatives across the country, providing assistance to vulnerable communities through projects focused on healthcare, education, food relief, and disaster response.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to supporting mothers and children, especially in public hospitals, as part of its long-term vision to enhance community well-being and promote dignity for all.
