Son of former Parliamentarian Abida Sidik Mia, Abdul Wahab Sidik Mia, has urged Malawians to embrace the spirit of giving and support those facing hunger and hardship across the country.
Mia made the remarks during a food donation exercise that benefited over 1,000 vulnerable people from Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District. The donation included essential food items such as maize flour, cooking oil, and other basic supplies aimed at alleviating hunger in the area.
Speaking during the event, Mia said the initiative was inspired by his mother, Abida Sidik Mia, and Abdul Gaffer, who saw the need to help families struggling with food insecurity due to the harsh economic situation and poor harvests in the Lower Shire.
“My mother and Mr. Abdul Gaffer believe that giving back to the community is an act of love and humanity. We must share the little we have with those who have nothing,” said Mia.
One of the beneficiaries, Cecelia Thomas, expressed deep gratitude for the gesture, saying the donation would help fill a critical food gap in many households.
“We are thankful to the Mia family for remembering us in these difficult times. The maize flour and cooking oil will help us have something to eat,” she said.
The Mia family has over the years been known for their philanthropic work in the Southern Region, particularly in Chikwawa and Nsanje, where they have supported thousands through food relief, education scholarships, and health support.
Mia emphasized that such initiatives would continue, especially as many families continue to face challenges brought on by droughts and economic instability.
“This is not the end. We will continue reaching out to more communities to ensure no family sleeps on an empty stomach,” he added., has urged Malawians to embrace the spirit of giving and support those facing hunger and hardship across the country.
