As hunger continues to bite across many parts of Malawi, State President Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) has once again demonstrated that true leadership is not about making promises — it’s about taking bold action.
In a decisive move aimed at easing the food crisis, President Mutharika has directed the release of cheap maize through ADMARC and free maize distribution to the poorest households. The initiative has brought relief, hope, and smiles to thousands of struggling Malawians who have endured months of food shortages.
But not everyone is happy. Reports indicate that those protesting the most are the same individuals who previously benefited from corruption and privilege — people who took fertilizer on credit and never paid back because they were linked to the former MCP-led administration, those who shared NEEF funds among themselves, and others who hoarded maize to sell at K150,000 per bag.
“These are the ones now crying foul,” said a market woman in Lilongwe. “They are not upset for the poor; they are upset because APM’s affordable maize has destroyed their black-market business.”
During the previous government, no minister complained about high maize prices because many in power were benefiting from the crisis. Fertilizer prices soared, hunger deepened, and ordinary citizens suffered — while a few elites grew richer.
Now, President Mutharika’s administration is turning the tide. ADMARC depots are being restocked, maize is selling at affordable prices, and truckloads of maize are on the way to ensure every Malawian household has food on the table.
“APM is a man of action,” said a farmer from Zomba. “He cannot watch Malawians eating maize husks while others hoard grain in warehouses. This is the leadership we voted for.”
As the maize trucks roll across the nation and queues begin to shorten, one message echoes in every corner of the country — President Arthur Peter Mutharika is determined to end hunger and restore dignity to Malawians.
APM, the people’s president — delivering food, hope, and leadership once again.
