The Chairperson of the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), Sheikh Idrissa Muhamad, has extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Enock Kamzingeni Chihana following his appointment as Second Vice President of the Republic of Malawi.
Chihana was officially sworn in today at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre, alongside newly appointed Cabinet ministers Roza Fatch Mbilizi and George Partridge, during a ceremony presided over by President Arthur Peter Mutharika.
In a statement made available to Radio Islam, Sheikh Muhamad described Chihana as a capable and visionary leader who has the potential to contribute significantly to Malawi’s socio-economic development. He noted that Chihana’s experience in government and leadership, including his time as a Cabinet Minister, places him in a strong position to help steer the nation toward progress.
“We pray to Allah to guide Honourable Chihana and grant him wisdom and strength as he serves the people of Malawi with integrity and dedication,” said Sheikh Muhamad.
Enock Chihana, who is also the President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), now follows in the footsteps of his late father, Hon. Chakufwa Tom Chihana, who served as Malawi’s first Second Vice President under Dr. Bakili Muluzi’s administration.
The appointment comes after AFORD formed a political alliance with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the recent elections—a partnership that played a key role in shaping the country’s current political landscape.
Sheikh Muhamad’s message of goodwill reflects growing optimism among religious and political leaders that Chihana’s inclusion in the new administration will bring a spirit of unity, reform, and inclusive development to Malawi.
