The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya has held a motivational session aimed at energising the Scorchers, Malawi’s women’s football team as they prepared to face Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

“Girls, I know you have worked hard for this moment,” Haiya began, his voice filled with conviction.

He added: “You have the talent, the skill and the determination. Now, it’s time to believe in yourselves.”

The players nodded, their faces set with determination. They knew what was at stake – a chance to qualify for the WAFCON finals for the first time in Malawi’s history.

“I want you to play with confidence, courage and belief. Leave fear behind and trust your abilities,”

On her part speaking on behalf of fellow players, the team’s captain, Tabitha Chawinga, a seasoned player who plays at the French side Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, assured the FAM boss in particular and Malawians at large that the Scorchers will do the needful.

“We are ready, sir. We will make Malawi proud.”

With renewed energy and determination, the Scorchers will take to the field, ready to face the challenge ahead.

As they will be playing, the nation will stand firmly behind them, cheering them on.

The match would be tough, but the Scorchers were determined to make history. With every pass, shot and tackle, they fought for victory, their hearts filled with pride and passion. The fate of their qualification dreams rested in their hands and they were ready to seize the opportunity.

Malawi will host Angola in the second leg at Bingu National Stadium in the capital, Lilongwe in the next five. The overall winner between the sides will qualify for the WAFCON finals slated for next March in Morocco.
