OPC Secondment: ESCOM’s Kamkwamba Kumwenda Assigned to MUBAS as Lecturer

By Suleman Chitera

The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has directed the secondment of Kamkumwamba Kumwenda from the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) to the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), where he will serve as a Lecturer.

The development is contained in a letter signed by Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi. According to the letter, Kumwenda will be engaged under a Malawi Business School (MBS) employment contract while maintaining his employment status with ESCOM.

Mutharika assures Suleman of his full support

Under the arrangement, which is in line with the Malawi Public Service Regulations, Kumwenda will continue to receive his full benefits and entitlements as an ESCOM employee throughout the secondment period.

The OPC has instructed Kumwenda to complete all outstanding tasks at ESCOM and formally hand over to the Director of Projects and Development, Engineer Sinos Mailano, before taking up his new academic role at MUBAS.

The secondment is subject to review and may be terminated at any point before the expiry of the agreed term, should the need arise and upon mutual agreement among the parties involved.

The move highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen knowledge exchange and capacity building between the public sector and higher learning institutions in Malawi.
