UTM legislator for Mzimba North constituency Dr. Catherine Mkandawire, has dismisses reports by the MCP led government on circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima that the search mission was not called off to investigate the missing plane which crashed in the Chikangawa forest on the 10th June, 2024.

Mkandawire said she was there at the Mzuzu Airport, she was there that the plane was missing, she was there that the plane crashed, she was there the search mission was commissioned and she was there when they were using their phones to check for the missing plane on the roads.
She said she was there when the search was called off at 8 pm saying of all the people that were deeply touched with the death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima, she was one of the people not convinced saying Malawians still have questions and they need answers.
Speaking from the point of pain in Parliament on Friday, Mkandawire said she felt pain in her heart that Dr. Saulosi Chilima was the UTM leader, the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and above all, he was the one who mentored her to be the Doctor..
Kabambe calls for independent enquiry into Chilima’s death
Mkandawire said at the time of the plane crash in the Chikangawa forest, all the ministers were in Nkhatabay and none of them was part of the search mission and no one showed sympathy that the country has lost the Vice President.
“Fresh plane crash inquiry is needed for the sake of the nation to know the truth, Malawians have millions of questions without answers,” she said.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, said MCP has been caught red handed for the Chikangawa forest sad story saying the coming out of Legislator Dr. Catherine Mkandawire that she was there, is speaking for itself that no one in the MCP including President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will run away from the evil.
Kamphangala said he sees a vision that out of the Chikangawa story, a motion will be moved in Parliament to deregister the MCP- a thing which will be supported by all parliamentarians including those from the MCP..

He said MCP top politician Eisenhower Mkaka is in support of the fresh plane crash inquiry for the nation to know the truth expressing fears that a number of prominent politicians, and public servants will be arrested, prosecuted and sent to Maula Prison and this will be the end of the MCP’s political history of killing innocent people in Malawi.
“We as diehards of the MCP, we will not leave President Chakwera and some ministers scot- free, we will hold them accountable for making our party deregistered,” said Kamphangala.
