The Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Mr. Amararam Gujar, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Justice Dr. Jane Ansah on Tuesday afternoon to discuss bilateral matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Dr. Ansah highlighted the longstanding cordial relations between Malawi and India, which date back to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1964.

She noted that the partnership is grounded in mutual trust, democracy, South–South cooperation, and a shared aspiration for prosperity and sustainable development.

The Vice President commended India for its continued support to Malawi across key sectors, including education, health, agriculture, trade, energy, and capacity development, noting the transformative impact on Malawians’ lives.

Dr. Ansah further acknowledged India’s contributions through concessional loans, which have financed major projects such as sugarcane factories, water supply systems, petroleum storage facilities, agricultural equipment, and cotton ginneries.

She informed the High Commissioner that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has outlined short-term priorities under the “4Fs and M” agenda—Fertilizer, Food Security, Fuel, Foreign Exchange, and Medicines—and expressed optimism for India’s continued collaboration, particularly in food security and medical supplies.

Dr. Ansah reaffirmed the Government of Malawi’s commitment to strengthening the Malawi–India partnership, emphasizing the importance of sustaining cooperation for mutual benefit.

She reiterated Malawi’s resolve to deepen collaboration with India, aiming to achieve their shared development vision and further national prosperity.

The meeting underscored the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and the commitment to continued partnership in development, trade, and social progress.
