The nation demands to know the truth

by Comrade Jumbe

As the new DPP-led administration settles into power, the focus of the nation remains fixed on a deep and unhealed wound — the tragic plane crash of 10th June that claimed the life of Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight other distinguished Malawians.

While maintaining law and order is essential, questions are rising on whether government urgency is being directed toward issues of lesser national significance — such as the widely publicized hunt for missing police dogs — while the country’s most consequential aviation tragedy in recent political history continues to be treated with unsettling silence.

If one were to ask which case deserves immediate national priority, the answer is unmistakably clear: uncovering the truth behind the deaths of Chilima and the eight others must stand above all else. Their families, and the entire nation, deserve answers — not tomorrow, not someday, but now.

Malawians are waiting to know what truly happened in the Chikangawa Forest.
We are waiting to know the whereabouts of the black box.
We are waiting for the full account of the events that unfolded on that dark day when Malawi was robbed of a Vice President and eight patriotic sons and daughters.

The truth about the Chikangawa tragedy is not a political luxury — it is a national right.
It is the foundation upon which justice, accountability, and national healing must be built.

It must also be stated plainly: while hunger, poverty, and economic desperation influenced the electorate, the demand for truth surrounding the Chikangawa crash was equally a powerful force behind the DPP’s rise and the fall of the previous administration.

For decades, Malawians have endured hardship. But the mysterious death of their Vice President ignited a rare unity — a vote born not only of pain, but of suspicion, betrayal, and a collective demand for answers.

Every opposition politician campaigned on the promise of truth.
Every opposition leader vowed justice for Chilima and the eight others.
Now that power has been secured, the nation expects action — not delays; clarity — not excuses; justice — not silence.

The government must accelerate investigations, release credible updates, and secure and publish the black box findings. All individuals implicated — directly or indirectly — must be brought before the law without fear, favour, or political protection.

Malawians voted with the hope that the painful chapter of 10th June would finally be handled with integrity, transparency, and urgency.

The time to act is now.
The nation is watching.
The families are waiting.
And justice delayed any further risks becoming justice denied.

My pen is mightier than a sword.
