The Malawi Parliament which is a House of records has recorded Malawi’s debit stock to be at K28 trillion from K4.1 trillion left by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in June, 2020.

With the debt stock at K4.1 trillion, the DPP government of President Professor Mutharika implemented tangible projects which are visibly been seen today such as Bingu national Sports Stadium, BICC, University of MUST in Thyolo district and the State of the art hospital in Nkhatabay district.

The MCP led government alone has borrowed from the international community a total of K24 trillion but there is no visible project on the ground only powerful and decorative speeches from President Chakwera.

Speaking in Parliament, Leader of government Business in the House Jappie Mhango, said the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Joseph Mwanamvekha was only very gentle and diplomatic that the debt stock was K24.6 trillion while in true sense as of today, it is standing at K28 trillion.

Mhango asked the MCP, President Chakwera and Malawians themselves that where is the K24 trillion they borrowed for Malawians to see the fruits of the MCP as they have witnessed with the DPP of President Professor Mutharika at the time he was leaving office?

He asked Minister of Finance Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha to bring to the House a detailed expenditure of the resources plundered by the MCP led government and this will be Kwacha by Kwacha and Tambala by Tambala.

The Minister said the Minister of Finance will bring a detailed expenditure of all State Lodges not only Kamuzau Palace for Members of Parliament and Malawians out there to appreciate that MCP and President Chakwera were a wasteful government.

“We cannot live like this? We want to run this government and we need the MCP led government to account for the K24 trillion they borrowed,” said Mhango.

Making his contributions, Minister of Local Government Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri, asked various committees in the House more specifically the Public Accounts Committee to help government in tracing out the resources and identifying individuals who took part in the looting.

Phiri called for the need to “Name and Shame” all those who plundered the country’s resources at nobody’s care including those who were distributing cash out of K50,000s, K20,000s to voters at the State House including procuring maheu packets to determine if public money was used.

“We need to see justice taking place, you cannot borrow K24 trillion just for honey- moon party, all who have eaten this money will vomit,” he said.

He described the shooting of the country’s national debt stock from K4.1 trillion in 2020 toK28 trillion in 2025 as criminal in nature saying the perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted as this will be a lesson to all would- be politicians that to be in government, is not time to steal from government coffer.
