A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has challenged the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to hold an emergency Convention for unity and cooperation to prevail in the party.
Kamphangala has warned the party that failure to hold an emergency convention and continue to make an endorsement that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will stand in the 2030 presidential elections, will take the party to nowhere.
He said those that are calling for an emergency convention in the party are not fools, their eyes are set on the future and they are wishing the party well unlike those that are endorsing President Chakwera to be the party’s torch bearer in the 2030 elections.
The MCP diehard has accused MCP national Publicity Secretary Dr. Jessie Kabwila for telling Malawians that there are no divisions in the party and that all members and supporters of the party wants President Chakwera to stand in the 2030 elections.
He has asked Dr. Kabwila that the views she is expressing are of her own and not necessarily those of the party saying if the party is afraid of holding an emergency convention for the reasons best explained by those surrounding President Chakwera, unity and cooperation is not there.
Kamphangala has reminded Dr. Kabwila and all MCP members that President Chakwera legally stood as President of the party in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections claiming that the fall of the MCP constitution started from the Jume,2020 elections.
He said President Chakwera illegally stood for the 2025 elections speaking for itself that MCP is no longer a national party but a party driven by few misguided individuals surrounding President Chakwera thereby planning to completely destroy the MCP.
The MCP diehard has asked President Chakwera to explain to the party members and supporters that what exactly made him wishing to stand in the 2030 elections after failing to secure 50 percent of the votes counted in the 16th September, 2025 elections?
“Dr. Kabwila said many Malawians wants him to continue with the implementation of road construction projects, which roads? Kamphangala questioned.
He said President Chakwera would become a legitimate President of the MCP only if the party holds an emergency convention to reflect on the 16th September, 2025 elections loss advising the MCP that time to correct matters in the party is now.
Kamphangala has finally made his point clear that the same constitution of the party which President Dr. Kamuzu Banda used, John Tembo and Gwanda Chakuamba Phiri, used the same and there’s no way MCP diehard members can allow the party to be driven like a briefcase party as it is being done with President Chakwera.
