Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee Chairperson, Hon. Steve Baba Malondera, has called on the government to take bold and decisive action against all individuals implicated in the mismanagement and theft of public resources.

Speaking in Parliament, Malondera challenged Finance Minister Hon. Joseph Mwanamveka to ensure that every person who abused government funds under the previous MCP administration is arrested and held accountable.

“It is unacceptable that we keep trading accusations about who stole government money while failing to take action. I urge the government to arrest anyone who embezzled even a single tambala from poor Malawians,” said Malondera.

He stressed that Malawi cannot move forward if leaders who plundered public resources continue to walk freely, adding that decisive action would restore public trust in government systems.

In response, Minister Mwanamveka cautioned Malondera that his strong demand may unsettle opposition Members of Parliament, noting that many are already nervous because they know their time of reckoning is near.

Mwanamveka assured the House that the government remains committed to promoting accountability and ensuring that all cases of financial misconduct are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

The call comes at a time when Malawians continue to demand transparency and stronger measures to combat corruption in public institutions.
