President Mutharika Returns from Private Visit to South Africa

State President Peter Mutharika and First Lady Gertrude Mutharika have returned to Malawi following a two-week private visit to the Republic of South Africa.

The President and the First Lady arrived at Bakili Muluzi International Airport in Blantyre this evening, where they were received by senior government officials.

Among those who welcomed the Head of State were Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr George Chaponda and Chief Secretary to the Government Dr Justin Saidi.

The visit to South Africa was described as private. No official government engagements were announced during the President’s time abroad.

Following his return, President Mutharika is expected to resume his official duties at State House.
