Alice’s tragic death, with her body found in Mtemakhokwe river, has sent shockwaves through the community, and the Teachers of Mangochi WhatsApp group has sprung into action, mobilizing support for the grieving family. The group’s efforts have so far raised an impressive K240,000, a testament to the power of solidarity and camaraderie among teachers in the district.

Speaking on behalf of the group, founder and senior group administrator Lazarus Jonas Maleka expressed satisfaction with the response to the condolence contribution drive, saying, “We are very happy to see that when we request such contributions, our members are always on the positive side to support.”
Mussa Kabichi, one of the group’s fund mobilizers and deputy senior group administrator, echoed Maleka’s sentiments, saying his job was made easier by the willingness of members to contribute.

This is the fifth time the group has come together to support bereaved families, cementing its reputation as a trusted comforter in times of sorrow. As one headteacher, who opted for anonymity, put it, “The group has now turned into a trusted comforter during sad times.”

The Teachers of Mangochi WhatsApp group was created on 26th June 2018 and has been a shining example of the power of solidarity.
