Mulli Urges Malawians to Celebrate Life in Promoting Mental Well-Being

By Suleman Chitera

Business expert Leston Mulli has called on Malawians to adopt a culture of celebrating the lives of departed loved ones, saying positive remembrance can help reduce stress and promote mental well-being.

Mulli said mental health challenges affect people across all sectors of life, including business and entrepreneurship, but stressed the importance of finding healthy coping mechanisms.

He was speaking during a memorial event held in honour of his late father, Lacton Mulli, where he highlighted the power of celebration, prayer and music in healing.

“I remember my father through prayers, celebration and music. It is not that I am happy about his passing, but I choose to celebrate the positive impact and meaningful life he lived,” said Mulli.

The event, held last Saturday at Horo Ground in Phalombe, attracted a large turnout and featured lively performances by the renowned Black Missionaries Band, creating an atmosphere of reflection, unity and joy.

Mulli said such commemorations offer communities an opportunity to support one another while promoting conversations around mental health and emotional well-being.

Lacton Mulli passed away in 2006, but his legacy continues to be celebrated through moments of togetherness and positive remembrance.
