Phalombe, Malawi — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Southern Region, Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha, has delivered a strong vote of confidence in the leadership of President Arthur Peter Mutharika, saying the administration is firmly revamping Malawi’s economy and restoring stability after years of decline.
Speaking to a jubilant crowd at Namileme Primary School Ground in Phalombe District, Mwanamvekha said tangible economic recovery is already being felt at household level. He cited the steady fall in maize prices—from K110,000 to about K50,000 per 50-kilogram bag—as clear evidence of improved market stability and effective economic stewardship.
“The economy is responding because leadership is decisive and focused,” Mwanamvekha told the rally. “Families can now plan again. Farmers, traders, and consumers are seeing relief.”
He further highlighted the return of fuel availability across the country, noting that persistent shortages and queues have been resolved. “No more fuel queues at our filling stations,” he declared, drawing applause from supporters who said transport and business operations have normalized.
Mwanamvekha contrasted the current gains with what he described as economic mismanagement during the previous administration under Lazarus Chakwera (2020–2025), arguing that decisive reforms and competent leadership have reversed negative trends and restored confidence in the economy.
The area’s Member of Parliament, Feston Chauma, thanked constituents for their continued support of the Democratic Progressive Party and commended Mwanamvekha for committing to the rehabilitation of the impassable Chiteketsa dust road—an intervention expected to improve connectivity, trade, and access to social services.
The rally drew senior party leaders, including DPP Regional Governor Charles Mchacha and DPP Youth Director for the South Bizzier Kalulu, underscoring the party’s unity and momentum in the region.
Concluding his address, Mwanamvekha urged residents of Phalombe North to maintain their support for APM’s development agenda, emphasizing infrastructure, food security, and economic growth as top priorities. “Together, we are rebuilding Malawi—stronger, more stable, and ready for progress,” he said.
The rally formed part of the DPP’s ongoing outreach to update citizens on government achievements while listening to community concerns, reinforcing the party’s message of recovery, delivery, and inclusive development.
