A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has accused Richard Chimwendo Banda’s lawyers of not helping him alleging that their heads are bent on money and not him to be granted court bail.
Kamphangala said on the 24th December, 2025 High Court Judge Mzondi Mvula after hearing submissions from both the state and Defence team on the bail application by Chimwendo Banda, the Judge promised to deliver his ruling through an e-mail to Chimwendo Banda’s lawyers.
He said before that ruling has been delivered, Chimwendo Banda’s lawyers went to the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal for a stay order of the Remand warrant describing this as unprocedural faulting the lawyers wrong for a shortcut demanding for Chimwendo Banda’s release.
The MCP diehard said it is shame to all parties Chimwendo Banda’s lawyers, MCP members and supporters that the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal sitting in Blantyre, has dismissed an appeal challenging the Remand order of Richard Chimwendo Banda describing it as prematurely brought before the court.
He said he is wondering what the learned judges of the MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda were challenging before the court since High Court judge Mzondi Mvula has not yet made his ruling for Chimwendo’s bail application.
Kamphangala has suspected that the lawyers may have advised Chimwendo Banda wrongly that by applying for his bail at the Supreme Court of Appeal, the court will move quickly to make its ruling on the bail application that he will walk to freedom.
“I find the advice made to Chimwendo Banda not in good faith, the lawyers knew pretty well the outcomes from Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal but their interest was on money charged per hour,” he said.
The MCP diehard said he has learnt with a big shock and dismay hearing reports that there were no MCP members at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal speaking to itself that the noises which are being made by MCP members and activists pressing for Chimwendo Banda’s release are just verbally.
Kamphangala said those who sacrificed not to leave Chimwendo Banda alone, this would be the time to come out from silence by visiting him, and strengthening him that they are with him in prayers for him not to lose hope that the whole MCP family is with him.
