Minister of Education, Bright Msaka, has announced that Malawi is set to begin printing national examinations locally after putting in place stringent security measures to safeguard the integrity of the examinations.

Msaka made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), where he toured the institution to appreciate preparations for this year’s national examinations.

According to the minister, government has already acquired a specialised printing machine, clearing the way for local production of examination papers. He said the move will be implemented soon, once all security protocols are fully operational, to ensure confidentiality and prevent leakages.

“This is a major step towards strengthening the credibility of our examinations. Printing exams locally will enhance control, reduce costs, and improve efficiency, but security remains our top priority,” Msaka said.

He commended MANEB for the progress made so far and urged the board to maintain high standards of professionalism and vigilance throughout the examination process.

MANEB Executive Director, Professor Dorothy Nampota, assured the minister that the board is fully prepared to administer this year’s examinations. She said key preparatory activities are already underway, including the printing of student identity cards.

“We have already started printing student ID cards, and the printing of examinations is scheduled to commence this coming February,” Nampota said.

She added that MANEB has strengthened internal systems and security arrangements to ensure that the examinations are conducted in a credible, transparent, and secure manner.

The move to print examinations locally is expected to mark a significant milestone in Malawi’s education sector, reducing reliance on external printers and reinforcing public confidence in the national examination system.
