MCP Media Manager calls Chakwera to end intra-party war

By Vincent Gunde

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Media Manager Dickson Kashoti, has called on the party President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to rise up and take his rightful position in the party to end intra- party civil war advising him to be an active leader now instead of being passive as he used to be when the party was in government.

Kashoti has claimed that what bound together the party leaders when the MCP was in government was not the four cornerstones upon which the party was founded by Kamuzu Banda of Unity, Obedience, Loyalty and Discipline but the government Mapwevupwevu.

He has reminded the MCP that when President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was in power, there were distress calls within the MCP to axe incompetent Cabinet ministers saying Chakwera never acted, he buried his head in the sand and life went on.

Writing on his face book page, Kashoti said there were reports of rampant corruption in government, thieving, looting, and plunder of public resources, Martha Chizumila’s ACB produced a comprehensive report including names of those involved and how much was involved, Chakwera only acted when he learnt that the nonsense Chizuma had given copies of the Report to the Diplomatic community.

Kashoti has reminded the party that in the run- up to the MCP Convention the party was divided into factions, party leaders and party loyalists saying these were busy fighting each other instead of finishing the political opponent- the DPP, Chakwera never intervened, he buried his head in the sand.

He said during the party’s primary elections for Mzimba Central constituency, there was a bitter feud between Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba and Richard Chimwendo Banda, there was no intervention from Chakwera and as usual, he buried his head in the sand and let the fight go on until the party was bruised.

The Media Manager said soon after Chakwera appointed Simplex Chithyola Banda as Leader of Opposition in Parliament, some senior party officials both inside and outside Parliament expressed reservations arguing he does not possess leadership quality for the position, Chakwera buried his head in the sand.

“Chakwera should be decisive as a leader and take charge of the party otherwise, things are fast falling apart in the once mighty MCP,” reads Kashoti’s writings on the wall.

Meanwhile, a concerned MCP member- Hakim, has written an open letter to Counsel Silvester Ayuba James advising him to stop insulting President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on the understanding that no one is perfect claiming that James had not made any contribution to the party.

Hakim has further advised James that if he no longer wish to work with the Malawi Congress Party, he has every right to leave peacefully and respectfully saying politics should be guided by maturity, discipline, and responsibility- not by insults or divisive statements
.
“If you intend to align yourself with the DPP, you should do so openly and respectfully and if there are personal grievances with Chakwera, the concerns should be handled privately and not through public confrontation,” reads Hakim’s writings on the wall.
