Beyond Borders: Culture Weaves Us Together

By Burnett Munthali

Culture knows no bounds, and it’s the glue that holds people together, said Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah at Zambia’s Ncwala Ceremony. She stressed that culture is a basic right that connects communities across countries.

Dr Ansah pinpointed language, food, and dressing as the three pillars of culture that unite the region, creating a shared identity among nations.

“We’re one people, arbitrarily divided,” Dr Ansah remarked, highlighting the Ngoni people’s common heritage.

She commended Zambia for safeguarding its culture and praised the maize deal with Malawi as a shining example of regional cooperation.

Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema echoed Dr Ansah’s views, stating that culture is a must for his government, and lauded Malawi for passing on traditions to the next generation.

The ceremony drew dignitaries like Inkosi M’mbelwa V and former Vice President Khumbo Kachali, showcasing the value of cultural exchange.

Dr Ansah gifted Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mpezeni IV, celebrating the event’s success and strengthening Malawi-Zambia ties.
