MacFarlane Ngwirinji has made a series of sensational allegations concerning Malawi’s 2025 General Elections, claiming that an elaborate plan to manipulate the electoral outcome was disrupted after the alleged rigging system was hacked while voting was still underway.Beyond Smartmatic: Rethinking Malawi’s digital voting path amid global concerns

Speaking in a one-and-a-half-hour interview, Ngwirinji alleged that individuals linked to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) had established a system designed to influence the election results. He further claimed that there were attempts to eliminate Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawyer Bob Chimkango, who was reportedly working on a court case aimed at stopping the use of Smartmatic election technology.HRDC worry of violence, Smartmatic misinformation

According to Ngwirinji, the alleged election manipulation system suffered a major setback when it was hacked at around 3:00 p.m. on September 16, 2025, while Malawians were still casting their votes.

“The entire operation was thrown into confusion after the system was breached,” Ngwirinji claimed during the interview.

He further alleged that after the initial plan failed, the ruling party enlisted the services of Nigerian computer experts who allegedly worked alongside Malawians to gain access to systems at the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) National Tally Centre.VENEZUELA-CRISIS-CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY-RESULTS-SMARTMATIC

Ngwirinji also claimed that approximately K7 billion was released to facilitate the operation.

The allegations appear to correspond with reports from some party monitors who were stationed at the National Tally Centre and previously spoke of unusual activities, unfamiliar individuals, and suspicious operations during the vote tallying process.

At the time of publication, MCP, MEC, and the individuals named in the allegations had not publicly responded to the claims. The allegations have not been independently verified.

Political observers say the claims are likely to spark renewed debate over the credibility of the 2025 elections and could intensify calls for independent investigations into the electoral process.Concerned Citizen says Smartmatic is MCP exit strategy
