The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) says it is expecting about 1,200 youth delegates from across the country to participate in this year’s National Youth Summit, which will take place from 18 to 20 August 2026 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe on Tuesday, NYCOM Chief Executive Officer Roda Gadama Misomali said this year’s summit will build on the progress made during the 2025 National Youth Summit by assessing the implementation of resolutions adopted last year.

Misomali explained that delegates will review both the achievements and challenges encountered in implementing the 2025 resolutions while identifying practical strategies to accelerate youth development in Malawi.Minister urges for a Digitally United Africa at E-Learning Summit

She also dismissed claims that the delegate selection process would favour certain groups, assuring the public that the process will be transparent and inclusive.

“We want young people from all backgrounds, including those in rural and urban communities, to have an equal opportunity to participate. We encourage interested youths to express their interest in attending the summit,” she said.

Misomali further disclosed that President Peter Mutharika is expected to officially open the summit, which will be held under the theme: “Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi.”Malawi Strengthens Bilateral Ties with Qatar at World Summit for Social Development

Meanwhile, youth representative and head of Change Makers Youth Organization, Mariah Chavula, said the summit presents an important opportunity for young people to strengthen partnerships and collaborate on initiatives that promote youth empowerment.

Chavula said meaningful collaboration among government, development partners, the private sector and youth-led organisations is essential to unlocking opportunities for young people and advancing the country’s long-term development agenda.

She added that the summit is expected to contribute towards the achievement of the Malawi 2063 vision by ensuring that young people remain at the centre of national development efforts.Malawi to Host High-Level SADC Security Ministers’ Summit
