BLANTYRE, Malawi – Football supporters have been promised a major boost after the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) pledged to revive the construction of a new football stadium in Blantyre and complete the unfinished stadium projects for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers if it returns to government.

The assurance was made in Parliament by Minister of Natural Resources Patricia Wiskes, who responded to questions on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports.

She said the administration also remains committed to completing the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers stadiums, describing the projects as key investments in the development of football infrastructure in Malawi.

The stadium projects were initiated in early 2020 as part of efforts to improve sports facilities and provide modern venues for local clubs and national competitions. However, progress stalled following the change of government later that year.

A modern stadium in Blantyre has also been viewed as a crucial development for Malawi’s football sector, with stakeholders arguing that improved infrastructure would enhance player development, attract international matches and generate economic opportunities through sports tourism.

If implemented, the projects would significantly expand the country’s football infrastructure and strengthen efforts to raise the standard of the domestic game.
