Thandi Chisi has broken her silence for the first time since controversy erupted over her selection as Miss Malawi 2025, saying she will refrain from commenting on the matter until the appropriate time while maintaining confidence that the truth will eventually come to light.

In a statement released on Monday, Chisi expressed gratitude to Malawians for the overwhelming support, encouragement and solidarity she has received in recent days, describing the messages as deeply touching during a challenging period.

However, Chisi said she had deliberately chosen not to engage in the ongoing public discussion.

“At this time, I have made a deliberate decision not to comment on the matters being discussed in the public domain,” reads part of the statement.

She explained that her decision was guided by her belief that responsible leadership requires patience, restraint and respect for due process rather than reacting to every allegation circulating publicly.

“While many narratives continue to circulate, I remain steadfast in truth, integrity and fairness. Despite the controversy, Chisi reaffirmed her commitment to the values associated with the Miss Malawi crown, pledging to continue upholding the principles of service, character and responsibility.

“A crown does not make a Queen; character does. And no circumstance can take that away,” she said.

Chisi’s statement comes days after her selection as Miss Malawi 2025 sparked widespread debate on social media, where some members of the public questioned the transparency and credibility of the selection process.

The controversy has prompted calls from sections of the public for the pageant organisers to provide greater clarity on how the winner was chosen.
