8 Percent Increment Is Mockery To Teachers

Some concerned civil servants have described as a mockery the 8 percent salary increment by government.

In his 2023-2024 budget presentation in parliament, Sosten Gwengwe, minister of Finance, said government has hiked salaries for civil servants with 8 percent and has also introduced transport allowance for the civil servants.

However, Alinafe Banda, Chairperson for Concerned Teachers of Malawi has told us that the salary increment is not tallying with the rising cost of living.

Banda said the teachers have written the minister of finance to revise upward the percentage.

He says they seek the change in the next seven days, failure to which, the workers will hold nation-wide demonstrations.
