One of the country’s renowned musicians, Sir Paul Banda, is urging government to consider buying dialysis machines for the country’s district hospitals to ease treatment access by kidney patients.
Banda says he pays about K200 thousand for dialysis treatment at one of the country’s private hospitals every week.
While acknowledging support from well wishers including fellow musician, Coss Chiwalo and Mangochi District Commissioner, Raphael Piringu, Banda said he has now released an 11 track audio album called “Ambuye ati tikondane,” as a way of generating financial resources to meet his weekly hospital expenses.
“For those who might want to buy the CD direct from me, you can reach me via my mobile numbers,” he said.
In an interview, Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe, confirmed that dialysis machines are found in some of the country’s central hospitals, adding that such machines require rare expertise to operate.
Paul’s illness became public sometime last year, almost at the same time when his brother Lucius equally needed kidney treatment.
