Chitipa District Council To Make by-laws Criminalize Unnecessary Littering

Chitipa District Council says it will put in place by-laws which will criminalize unnecessary littering in the district.

District Council Chairperson Saidi Luwanja said this Friday after a cleaning exercise around the district’s Central Business District (CBD). Luwanja said with by-laws in place, people will now throw litter in designated places for easy waste management thereby making the district disease free and clean at all times.

However, Chitipa District Cleaning Taskforce Chairperson Philip Mtambo said the Taskforce is happy with the turn out of people during the exercise and the Taskforce will ensure that the exercise is taken to all areas across the district.

Flora Mlenga, a vendor at Chitipa Boma old market applauded the council and the Business Community in the district for coming up with the initiative saying a clean environment is necessary for the betterment of their businessess.

The cleaning exercise, which was launched today, will see people in Chitipa cleaning around markets and other public places every Friday of the week.
