The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has announced that aspiring candidates seeking the position of national chairperson will be required to pay a nomination fee of K5 million as the association prepares for fresh leadership elections scheduled for next month.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Alhaj Dr. Twaibu Lawe, the elections will be held on July 26, 2026, at COMESA Hall in Blantyre.MAM Blasts MCP Government for Snubbing Eidul Adhuha

Dr. Lawe said prospective candidates must submit their completed nomination forms by July 10, 2026. Nomination forms are available at MAM offices in Mzuzu and Lilongwe, as well as at Quran House in Blantyre.

The announcement marks another important step in MAM’s efforts to restore constitutional leadership following a High Court ruling earlier this year that nullified the association’s 2021 elections. The court’s decision paved the way for a fresh electoral process to ensure a legitimate and transparent selection of the organization’s leadership.

As the umbrella body representing the Muslim community in Malawi, MAM plays a significant role in promoting Islamic values, coordinating religious activities, advocating for the welfare of Muslims, and engaging with government and development partners on issues affecting the community.

The upcoming elections are expected to attract considerable interest from qualified candidates seeking to lead the association during a period of renewed focus on governance, accountability, and unity within the Muslim community.

Stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the electoral process to ensure it is conducted in accordance with the association’s constitution and the directives that followed the High Court ruling.
