President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has held bilateral talks with Her Excellency Jutta Urpilainen, the European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships, to make progress on the discussions they had in Brussels eight months ago.
Key outcomes of the meeting include the EU’s commitment of 125 million Euros slightly over K128 billion.
In the package 15 million Euros (K15.3 billion) will be used to address food insecurity challenges while the other amount will be used for other projects which will be outlined during the signing ceremony tomorrow, October 28.
The discussion also seeks to open up dialogue between Malawi and the EU in exploring the prospects of the resumption of direct budgetary support to Malawi.
The EU Commissioner informed the Malawi leader that the EU’s pursuit of such investments is a vote of confidence among development partners and foreign investors in the President’s strong performance in governance reforms that are creating a conducive environment for economic recovery and stability.
