The board of directors of the National Food Reserve Agency has confirmed that 7,500 bags of maize weighing 50 kilograms each belonging to the agency went missing and some people have been arrested in connection to the matter.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, NFRA board chairperson Denis Kalekeni said the maize was allegedly stolen in August this year by the transporter trading under Kachere Agriculture Trading and the owner of the company is among those arrested.
Kalekeni said the maize is part of the maize ADMARC was tasked to procure on behalf of the agency in the 2021/2022 national budget and was being store in various ADMARC depots in the Northern region.
He said one track carrying 600 bags has been recovered in Kasungu.
