The Development Aid from People to People ( DAPP) is set to implement a 36 month training and work for young people, women, and people with disabilities in Thyolo, Chiladzulu, Dowa and Mzimba districts.
The trainings will cover programs such as fashion design, up cycling and recycling and motorcycle mechanics to be implemented by DAPPs Mikolongwe Vocational School and Dowa DAPP Teachers Training College.
Mikolongwe Vocational School is a TVET accredited provider and Dowa DAPP TTC is a satellite centre, the programs will be implemented in addition and above what the Teachers Training College (TTC) is already doing at the institution.Holy Guardian Angels Shine With Leadership Training
Presenting the programs to the Dowa District Council, DAPPs Grants Manager Lansen Chikopa, said the trainings are informal – providing basic skills to the students using a bridged curriculum saying the project will bring required equipment and training material to the TTC to accomplish the technical skills training.
Chikopa said the trainings will be implemented in collaboration with TEVETA to provide regulatory guidance and support in the recruitment and enrollment of participants, support the review, adaptation and adoption of inclusive curricular alignment with Malawi’s education implementation jointly, to ensure compliance with national standards and regulations.
He said in Dowadistrict the project will cover acomodation, food, training materials, equipment and start – up kits to 500 beneficiaries mainly aged between 16 and 29 (60 percent women, 5 percent people with disabilities.
The Manager said the objective of the project is to contribute to fostering sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for the targeted beneficiaries.
He said in Dowa, the project will start with young people from the areas of Traditional Authorities Chiwere, Msakambewa B and Mkukula with the specific objective of ensuring full and productive employment and decent work for the targeted beneficiaries.
Chikopa said the project is aligning with the Malawi 2063 (MIP 1) which primarily focuses on human development and wealth creation which also feeds into the District Implementation Plan ( DIP).
Chikopa said the project activities will strengthen TVET providers implementing an internship program, build capacity of TVET instructors, updating the national TVET curriculum in collaboration with TEVETA, employability and entrepreneurship.
In his remarks, Dowa District Counci’s Principal Environmental Officer Yusuf Laki, welcomed the project into the district expressing hope that many young people will enrol themselves with DAPP for the training programs.MEDF set to Disburse K100 Billion Loans to Malawians
Laki appealed to partners implementing various interventions in the district to always share with the council progress of their projects to enhance cooperation, transparency and accountability.
DAPP will implement inclusion and development project with its partner – Humana People to People Italia with funds from Italian Agency for Development Cooperation ( AICS).
