President Peter Mutharika has appointed Second Vice President Enock Chihana to represent Malawi at the SADC Extraordinary Summit on June 29, where regional leaders will discuss the political and security situation in Madagascar.

The virtual summit will bring together regional leaders to deliberate on key political and security issues affecting the Southern African region, with particular focus on the situation in Madagascar.
The delegation follows President Mutharika’s earlier decision last week to appoint Chihana to chair a meeting of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation on his behalf, highlighting the confidence placed in the Second Vice President to represent Malawi at high-level regional engagements.

Principal Press Officer in the Office of the Second Vice President, Dave Gadama, confirmed that Chihana will attend the extraordinary summit as the President’s representative.Chihana Says Government Focused on Solutions, Not Blame-Shifting
The meeting will be chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and is expected to consider recommendations from last week’s meeting of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. The discussions are anticipated to focus on the political and security developments in Madagascar and possible regional responses.

The SADC Extraordinary Summit is expected to reinforce the regional bloc’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and democratic governance across Southern Africa, with member states seeking collective solutions to emerging political and security challenges.
