The embattled opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP has extended it’s invitation to other political parties to be in attendance at its Elective Convention that slated for 17th to 18th August 2024 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

Speaking during press briefing in Blantyre today, Chairperson for the convention, George Chaponda stated that preparedness for the party’s upcoming elective conference are at an advanced stage.

Chaponda said over 2,600 delegates across the country are expected to convene at COMESA Hall in Blantyre for its elective conference.

Chaponda added that all positions will be up for grabs during the conference, signifying the party’s commitment for all positions to be evenly shared.

He said Peter Mutharika, the party’s president, will go unopposed, as he is the only one who has collected presidential nomination papers.

“Unlike other parties, whose positions are shared among people from one region or one tribe, our party shall prove to be different,” said Chaponda.

The convention comes after the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) just concluded its elective conference last week at Bingu International Conference Centre-BICC in Lilongwe.

In his remarks, DPP Spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba emphasized that the DPP is unique in its commitment to regional inclusivity within its leadership structures.

Namalomba, the DPP ensures equitable representation across all regions of the country by distributing key positions within the Central Executive Committee and the National Governing Council regionally.

He also condemned other political parties for their perceived lack of regional balance.
