By Burnett Munthali

As part of Mother’s Day celebrations, the women’s group from Salima Sugar Company has donated various items valued at K28 million to Salima District Hospital and women under Senior Chief Khombedza, Makanjira, and Mwanza.

During the donation event, Alice Kosamu, the chairperson of the group, expressed that the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and a gesture to appreciate the love and care that mothers provide. Kosamu emphasized the group’s commitment to supporting the community and ensuring that those in need receive essential care.

“This donation aims to ensure that people in these communities, particularly mothers, do not go without the basic necessities they require for their families’ well-being,” said Kosamu.

The donation, which included cooking oil, sugar, and 5 kilograms of maize flour for the community members, was warmly received by Senior Chief Khombedza, who lauded the group for its kindness and community-focused efforts.

Salima District Hospital also benefited from the donation, receiving crucial medical supplies such as Phenobarbital, Diazepam, feeding tubes, and Glucostix, which will support the hospital in providing better care to its patients. The medical officer at Salima District Hospital, Steve Kumwenda, expressed his gratitude, describing the donation as timely and vital for the hospital’s operations.

“This donation will go a long way in helping us meet the medical needs of our patients. We are deeply thankful for the support,” said Kumwenda.

The Mother’s Day donation serves as a reflection of Salima Sugar Company’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the local communities, particularly in improving healthcare and supporting vulnerable groups.
