Jumbe calls Malawians protect hard-earned democracy

By Vincent Gunde

President of Chilungamo Party Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, has called on Malawians to protect hard-earned democracy following rumors that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government has allocated K5 billion to silence dissenting voices and intimidate political opponents like Bakili Muluzi TV and Comrade Mtanyiwa.

Jumbe says if these reports are true, it is sad for this nation, it is nut grave misuse of resources and a betrayal of the democratic ideals the country’s fore fathers envisioned saying Malawians cannot dismiss the rumors amidst of all serious blunders which MCP led government is committing such as spending billions of taxpayer’s money buying fertilizer in the butchery.

He says democracy cannot survive where fear and oppression take root, saying such actions risk plunging the nation into darkness observing that men like Chakufwa Thom Chihana, Bakili Muluzi and Kamlepo Kalua and many others, watered the tree of democracy with their blood, sweat and tears so that it could bear fruits for every Malawian.

Writing on his face book page, Jumbe says today, Malawians stands as beneficiaries of their selfless struggle, the current MCP administration have forgotten the value of this gift resorting to all oppressive tactics in the book that threaten to arrest the democracy that was fought for tirelessly.

Jumbe says as millions of Malawians struggle under the weight of soaring food prices such as maize, fuel shortages, broken systems like the fertilizer subsidy program, it is clear that the people’s priorities are misplaced.

He says a government that chooses to spend K5 billion on stifling democracy, instead of addressing hunger, unemployment and economic hardships, is failing its people saying it is sad that the resources are reportedly being wasted on political games, arresting political foes.

“The price of maize is now reaching up to K75,000 per bag, fertilizer prices are going high each passing day K135,000, and farmers had no access to fertilizer, this year they face the threat of reduced yields and widespread hunger next year,” reads Jumbe’s writings on the wall.

He has warned the MCP that any attempts to intimidate, silence or manipulate democracy, will only strengthen the resolve of Malawians to stand against oppression reminding leaders that power belongs to the people, not to the corridors of State House.

Jumbe has urged Malawians that the future of Malawi lies in their hands to choose leaders who respect democracy, cherish freedom, and prioritize the welfare of the people assuring the MCP government that the voices of the poor, the farmers, the youth cannot and will not be silenced, they deserve a government that listens, serves, and upholds the principles of democracy.
