Kamlepo Kalua cries for Malawi’s democracy going into reverse gear

By Vincent Gunde

Veteran politician, freedom fighter and activist Kamlepo Kalua, has expressed his deep concerns over the country’s democracy going into reverse gear, mismanaged and destructions saying it was not easy, people suffered for the democracy to be won.

Kalua said it was in those days where political killings were the order of the day and the same killings are back in modern Malawi with the Malawi Police that was used to abuse innocent people, they are back abusing people in the name of democracy.

He said he is coming back with the same call for change warning Malawians that if they are not careful, the blood of those that fought for the country’s freedom and democracy will be in vain urging Malawians to defend and protect the hard-earned democracy.

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalua said when the spirit of those who fought for democracy such as Robert Khembo, Mervin Moyo, Green Mwamondwe, and George Ntafu among others, rose from the grave to see how democracy is being mismanaged, they will cry.

Kalua said he don’t understand why democracy under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has gone into reverse gear seeing others, insulting and castigating former President and DPP leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika without shame.

He has questioned President Chakwera that in those days he looked so Godly why he is allowing young people in the MCP using his name to destroy his legacy, where is his leadership that he has stood so low watching democracy to be put under-siege during his reign?

The freedom fighter has advised President Chakwera to stop arresting opposition politicians and activists on drumming up political charges and instead, he should demonstrate the leadership of love to build Malawi with its economy.

He has informed President Chakwera that those that are being sent to arrest opposition politicians and activists for their dissenting views against President Chakwera and MCP have ill-intentions to kill and once they do that, Chakwera’s image will be painted with blood.

“I humbly appeal to you, not allow your young people kill Norman Chisale and Lytone Mangochi, I see your future being destroyed by young men surrounding you,” said Kalua.

He has appealed to Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to have courage and fear the Lord no matter how he is being tortured and called all sorts of names reminding the MCP that Kamuzu Banda who stood for the 1994 elections at 90 years old.

Kalua has pleaded with President Chakwera to tell his young men to free Lytone Mangochi so that he should go back to Karonga to join his family assuring him that how long it will take, light shall conquer darkness and change is coming.

On a sad note, Kalua has lamented over the continued custody of his phone by the police saying to this day, the police do not want to tell him the reasons they are holding his phone appealing to the Inspector General of Police Madam Nachulu Yolamu to intervene.
