MALABO, Equatorial Guinea – In a dramatic political development, the entire government of Equatorial Guinea has resigned after failing to achieve most of its development goals, paving the way for President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to appoint a new cabinet.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, who confirmed that Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua and all cabinet ministers had submitted their resignations following a poor performance review.FIFA ranking: Super Eagles move up by 3 spots, now world 36th
According to the vice president, the outgoing administration managed to accomplish only about 10 percent of the objectives it had set, a result he described as unacceptable given the resources available to government institutions.
“The rule is simple: public responsibility has to come with results,” Obiang Mangue said in a statement shared on social media platform X. “The state puts significant human, material and financial resources at the disposal of the government to address the needs of the population. The degree of execution achieved is clearly insufficient.”
Why Did the Equatorial Guinea Government Resign?
The mass resignation follows concerns over the government’s inability to deliver on key national development plans and public service commitments. The move has attracted international attention, with political analysts describing it as a rare case of a government stepping down due to poor performance rather than political conflict.
President Obiang Expected to Name New Cabinet
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has ruled Equatorial Guinea since 1979 and remains the world’s longest-serving head of state, is expected to announce a new cabinet in the coming days.
