As Malawi approaches the 2025 general elections, it is imperative that citizens take a moment to reflect on the political landscape and make informed decisions.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have dominated the political scene for years, yet their track record has left much to be desired.
It is crucial for Malawians to ask themselves: What new solutions do these two parties have to offer that they have not implemented since 2014?
With this in mind, I strongly urge all Malawians—youth, women, and men—to reject these two parties when they go to the polls on September 16, 2025.
The history of DPP is marred by corruption, nepotism, and abuse of public resources, which raises concerns about their ability to govern ethically.
One of the major issues during the DPP era was corruption, particularly within government institutions such as the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).
We cannot forget how government elites in the DPP administration exploited fuel procurement processes to siphon public funds.
Parastatal organizations were turned into personal piggy banks, with party officials using government vehicles and resources for political activities.
The infamous K148 million scandal, in which public funds were mysteriously deposited into a questionable account, remains a glaring example of corruption under the DPP regime.
During their time in power, DPP members openly flouted traffic regulations, using number plates labeled “ANA A DAD” to evade legal requirements such as insurance and driving licenses.
If DPP were to return to power, what assurances do Malawians have that the corruption, abuse, and mismanagement of public resources will not continue?
In addition to corruption, nepotism and cronyism flourished under DPP, with key government positions being filled based on political loyalty rather than merit.
The Ministry of Agriculture scandal, where offices were burned to destroy evidence of corruption, is a stark reminder of the unethical governance that Malawians rejected in 2020.
It is concerning to see the same individuals who were removed from power in 2020 now re-emerging with arrogance and hostility, seeking to reclaim control.
Their rhetoric and behavior suggest that a return of DPP would only bring back the same destructive leadership style that Malawians worked hard to remove.
It is clear that DPP, in its current form, has nothing new to offer Malawi and should not be given another opportunity to govern.
Turning to MCP, one must ask: What exactly has this party done to improve the lives of Malawians since 2020?
MCP came into power with promises of economic growth and social development, but instead, Malawians have faced economic hardships and unfulfilled promises.
One of the most embarrassing moments for Malawi on the international stage was when President Lazarus Chakwera falsely claimed that his administration had created 600,000 jobs, only to be visibly flustered when confronted by a BBC journalist.
MCP’s governance has been marked by failed policies, including the controversial Bridgin Foundation deal, which turned out to be a scam that embarrassed the entire nation.
Malawians have watched in frustration as a select few individuals have amassed wealth at an unprecedented rate over the past four years.
The cost of living has skyrocketed under MCP, with essential goods such as maize and fuel becoming increasingly unaffordable.
Foreign exchange shortages have plagued the economy, making it difficult for businesses to operate and leading to further economic instability.
Under MCP, inflation has eroded the purchasing power of ordinary Malawians, leaving many struggling to afford basic necessities.
With all these economic challenges, it is evident that MCP has failed to deliver on its promises, and Malawians must reject them in the 2025 elections.
It is time for Malawi to embrace a new leadership that prioritizes economic growth, accountability, and good governance.
Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has emerged as a strong and capable leader with the economic expertise needed to turn the country’s fortunes around.
His credentials as an economic strategist make him the ideal candidate to lead Malawi toward sustainable development and financial stability.
Malawians must seize this opportunity and rally behind Dr. Kabambe, whose vision for the country offers a realistic path to prosperity.
The 2025 elections present a critical moment for Malawi to break free from the cycle of poor leadership and chart a new course.
By rejecting both DPP and MCP, Malawians can ensure that the country is governed by leaders who prioritize national progress over personal gain.
Let us remain vigilant, informed, and committed to making the right choice for a better Malawi.
