UTM Vows to Revolutionize The Economy

By Draxon Maloya

The UTM party has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the welfare of Malawians through prudent fiscal measures, as outlined in its ‘Third Economic Revolution’ agenda.

This initiative aims to strengthen district council financial management and combat corruption, which has plagued the public service.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd when he addressed the political rally at Katoto Secondary School ground in Mzuzu on Sunday, UTM President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe emphasized the need for rigorous public expenditure prepayment checks.

“Prepayment internal audit functions are crucial in managing the public purse. Don’t be afraid of corruption at Council level because all the loop holes will be closed, if anything thievery is just so rampant at Capital Hill,” stressed Kabambe.

He added that, under UTM’s leadership, the government’s role would be limited to interest payments, standards, and monitoring.

Kabambe also accused the current administration of looting public funds and fostering corruption, which benefits a select few at the expense of the nation.

Some of his sentiments were echoed by other prominent UTM leaders, including Patricia Kaliyati, Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka, party president for the north, Catherine Mzumara, Yongo wa Yongo, and Willett Kalonga.

As the country gears up for the 2025 general elections, the UTM’s commitment to economic transformation and anti-corruption efforts is likely to resonate with voters, mainly those seeking change.
