John Jackson Bamusi has emerged victorious in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) primary elections held in the newly established Ngwangwa Constituency in Balaka District. Bamusi secured a total of 359 votes, defeating his opponent Mwayiwawo Nambeza, who failed to obtain even a single vote during the intra-party contest.
With this landslide victory, Bamusi is now the official DPP candidate for the parliamentary elections scheduled to take place on September 16 this year. His overwhelming support within the party demonstrates strong grassroots backing, positioning him as a formidable contender in the forthcoming general elections.
The newly demarcated Ngwangwa Constituency was created as part of the national constituency re-demarcation exercise, which saw the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) redraw several constituency boundaries to accommodate population growth and improve representation. As a result, Ngwangwa will be electing its Member of Parliament for the first time during the upcoming elections.
Party members and supporters in the area expressed excitement over Bamusi’s candidacy, describing him as a leader who understands the challenges of the community and is committed to championing development initiatives. His campaign message has largely focused on improving local infrastructure, access to education, and health services in the new constituency.
As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Ngwangwa as it prepares to write a new chapter in its political history. For John Jackson Bamusi and the DPP, this primary win marks a promising start in a constituency that holds both political opportunity and high expectations for progress.
